Great list there Pacikk !
I think you've got the wrong impression of 'alt' people or maybe I'm just an old fart and have been through all or most genres of music.

Could be just an impression, and maybe so...But I'm really the type to not be bothered at all about style. I love music, end of story. I see style culture (especially nowadays) as a form of false patriotism. I mean, it's ok to love one style and not the other but to glorify a particular style at the expense of other styles I think it as musical immaturity. As usual when it comes to written text my sarcasm or ironic tonality fail to go through... Glad you liked the list...Which entries of mine did you particularly relate to?

Mainly Led Zeppelin & Dylan of course. I find it hard to go back in music , I'm always looking for new acts , however if I were to put down an essential list (which I won't cause I never get down to doing these lists) I would include Nick Drake Mott The Hoople The Doors Led Zeppelin (hard to think of just one album) Sabbath Marvin Gaye even late 60's early 70's Rolling Stones and damn it even Cheap Trick ....wasn't Live in Budokan a classic ? and if we're going to include live albums.....Thin Lizzy.....Live and Dangerous Sex Pistols of course...that album then came post punk came and my life changed , from then on my list would be endless.

That album is so consistent, not even one bad song! even the debut was great mind you (both the U.S. and U.k. versions) give em enough rope is a bit patchy, sadinista goes into new territories but is a bit inconsistent, Combat Rock in its essence is a two song album and cut the crap is ..... well crap and im not going to even mention Big Audio Dynamite, oh yeah the last two mescalero albums are quite good too. Incidentally Mick Jones also produced The Libertine's first album which has a 'clashy' feel.
Bob has given his summary of the Clash

Hey what's wrong with B.A.D? I think they have a couple of great songs. Haven't listened to them in a while but although they overdo it on the samples I think they had some wicked melodies and strange ideas. My favourite Clash album is, as already stated, Sandinista. Not only does it have a mixture of styles and ideas but the fact that it was written and recorded in 3 weeks gives it a special status. It's like a captured 3 week period of the clash playing together. The first album rules. Give em enough rope is kind of overproduced but has some great songs there too. Safe European Home is a great start to a record, plus Julie's Been working for the drug squad is a cool cool song. London Calling is obviously a great journey and their best. Combat Rock has more than 2 tracks. I assume you were refering to the Should I and the Rock the. However I think that Know Your Rights, Sraight to Hell and Ghetto Defendent are great songs. Straight to Hell has a magnificent vibe imho. Re Cut the Crap, although they have a song called We are the Clash, quite frankly they were not. So I don't even consider it a Clash album.

Erm sorry to be pedantic but not ALL princes albums are good- Emancipation is total rubbish, for example really the only decent prince albums are: Sign O the Times (pure Genius throughout and possibly the best production skills on any album) Purple Rain (extremely consistent) Paisley Park (Beatlesly poppy music) Lovesexy- before the rot set in Come on guys practically everyone's album list here is quite dull- anyone own exciting records? /?

You do have a point there.
My list isnt an attempt to be avant garde though- those who know me, and listen to my dj sets can vouchsafe this. All the albums on my list are catchy and can be liked by everyone as well.
It's just that I do get a little bit tired of seeing the same things over and over again. (obviously there are exceptions)

taking my list for example, I can only spot three out of ten albums that can be classified as a cliche...If you can find more we'll discuss that...

moreover, there are cliches which are quite right. I mean, revolver is constantly branded about as being the best album of all time bla bla..well, guess what? i think it is the best album of all time
