ah, but pre-1965 beatles aren't considered hip enough. never mind the quality of the songs. It's all about hipness, man. ;D

Bob
I still think the Strokes album is great.
I fell in Love with... erm.. love from the first jangle of the guitar.
Same goes for Marquee Moon of Television.
Same goes for Lambchop really.
To give more examples of instantly likeable stuff that has remained classic: Ryan Adams, Jeff Buckley, Coldplay.
Of course, this doesnt mean that some of the greatest bands of all time (in my opinion), I thought were shite at first-ten listens.... Velvet Underground, Smashing Pumpkins, Wilco, many more.. but couldnt be arsed...

Actually you're the first person know to like lambchop at a first listen. Usually the magic sinks after a fourth or fifth listening. But you realy cant compare forever changes or marquee moon to abba.
I still think 'is this it' is a good album but the novelty wears off (obviously my opinion)

of course you cannot compare ABBA to television or love, but thenagain, one doesnt have to be Television or Love to be good. it isnt like i'm saying ABBA are the beatles or something..
and stuff fromthe 70s onwards ..
live forever, paranoid android, creep, london calling, fashion, etc etc etc, the list is endless, really
