the long awaited album and follow up to bloc party's silent alarm is set for release in February, but many songs have already leaked and i have a got a little snippet of the new material. Not enough yet to give a verdict, but yeah its good .... although I'm definitely going to buy the album, i was wondering what any of you, if you like , me downloaded songs/ new material, think. (you might be one who is against leaky albums, but feel free to contribute )

Come on some restraint don't you want to be surprised.
This is what I hate about downloading - it spoils a lot of things bah!

what i still can't seem to understand is how a band like bloc tours with panic! at the disco, a little listen is all i needed so that i would be assured american emo didn't rub off on their coolness.

Incidentally Bloc Party are considered an emo band in the US
Well Kanye West were also the inspirations behind the album. Is there an hip hop influence?

i read somewhere that there were hip hop and r n b influences and rythms but quite frankly i hear nothing of the sort. i love the old stuff so its gonna take alot to impress me this time.from what i heard of the new album i dont think we will be very dissapointed.

americans probably feel some 'hip hop' elements in their music because they use loads of effects, and the beats might seem computerised at times, but surely not repetitive like most hip hop groups. american emo disgusts me.

oh no don't say that - listen to Rites of Spring (you can find all the recordings on one cd), Fugazi (start with repeater) or Husker Du's New day Rising or Weezer's second album pinkerton. I'm sure your opinion will change I am definitely not a big fan of the genre but these groups are good

well The Bravery's first singles were great - I mean I still think honest mistake and Unconditional are fantastic but the album doesn't live up to them too well. There's going to be a new record out next year and the band said that they will go into rougher territories. If you want references I can suggest early depeche Mode (speak and spell era), OMD ,I can definitely hear new order (circa Power, Corruption and lies and technique)

Hmmm The Prayer is a good song. Driving beat. Good chorus. will sound better on repeated listenings. Most importantly it is a step forward from silent alarm. This doe s show that the band aren't a one trick pony and can develop.
but I don't think it's an ideal first single. One group that were great at creating tasters for their new album were blur. I sort of miss that.
i am definitely looking forward to the new album. Next year seems to shaping nicely with Bloc Party, anthony and the johnsons, the shins, Grindermen, Voxtrot, Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, !!!,The good the bad and the queen (damon albarn's new group) New Pornographers, Modest Mouse, Stephen Malkmus, Clap your hands say yeah all releasing something between january and march
