Hi friends, This is surely an interesting topic... however I would prefer to stick to 80's bands. I'll probably be biased if I had to chose the all time local bands, being that I was Scream Daisy's manager for 5 years. My list of top bands from the past would include Riffs / Characters, WinterMoods (they kicked of in the 80's), Stratkast, Subverts, X-Tend, Mirage, Artwork, Brainstorm, Acid, Sphinx... and let's not forget Tony Grimaud. Now here's some big news for you... RIFFFS ARE BACK !!!! Last Saturday 11 March, Malta's top 80's band The Rifffs officially announced their comeback during the Reflex Party at Gianpula. Ray, Rayvin, Cooks and Najju joined Alex Grech on stage and surprised the massive and enthusiastic crowd with this great news while their classic Music for the 80's Depression was being played. " What a fantastic night it was. To announce our comeback infront of 3 thousand people was electrifying" Rayvin Portelli, the band's guitarist said. "Seeing all the people dancing to 'Dance Music' gave us all a feeling that we have not felt for almost 25 years. Thank you Alex for making this possible and we are all looking forward to Tattingers for a memorable and fantastic show" he continued. Check out all the pics on www.reflexmalta.comThe Rifffs shall be playing live (after 20 yrs !) at the Reflex 80's Party at Tattingers on Saturday 29 April. The band shall also be on REFLEX live on Capital Radio on Saturday 25 March. Any questions for the band to answer can be posted on the Reflex Forum (please register first) or send an e-mail on reflex@onvol.net.

oh God
80's new romantism is back to torment us again....Noooooooooooooooooo plesssssssssssssss
I hated that period of the 80's with duran duran, kagagugu, culture club and the rest of the f...ks
At that time we (me, Jean and other friends of ours) used to hang around Raffles and Styx discotheque being constantly tortured with Rick Astley and the rest (above), just waiting for for the dj to put 2 songs which we liked, Killing Joke and Simple Minds after that we would immediately leave the premises and go get drunk at tigne.... I hated that era (and to meet a girl which had the same taste of music as us was almost unheard of)...VIVA IT-TURISTI
There wasn't one fuckin club that played the stuff we loved, Echo & the Bunnymen, Alarm, Cult, Mission, Clash, Police etc..
The place which had a bit of taste was Studio 54 when Alfie Fabri was a dj there, at least we had 5 songs played to us....lol
Jean mate what a sad era that was.....lol

haha gag studio 54 , alfie or was it albert zammit used to play sister europe of the psychedelic furs for us and we all used to slow/ghost dance and all the people used to stare at us like we were aliens LOL
I actually still can't figure out how a.zammit had that song...god its still an amazing track to this very day.
You know about those days , they really sucked but to our advantage we really looked outrageous then , (the ten local goths LOL )and it kinda worked with the girls......not the local girls though LOL

And by the way Raffles used to play alot Killing Joke and Simple Minds I was there, & Cult, The Damned, U2 not a lot of Mission and Sisters I agree. As regards girls, my group of friends had the same tastes as I did i.e. The New Romantics I liked weren't the commercial ones much more the New Wave, Dark wave and goth were and still are my favs. we all used to hang out at Raffles during 1984-1987, after that it was all over. Where the hell where you then, or maybe the looks had to do with it. I wasn't the kind of going crazy on some boy band or a singer's pretty face although I love Dave Gahan's tatoos When someone attacks the 80s I will respond definitely back cause unlike you, those where the best years of my life which I don't mind remembering. No hard feelings hi! but you know it's a thorn in my side that I need to heal.

do we know you jackie ?
Gag and I hardly ever went to Raffles , it was already dying out by the time we used to hang out. There weren't many of us at the time so you could barely miss us , Gaggu and I used to be with people like Mike Bugeja , Jody Fiteni....you must know these guys.
re 80's ...yeah for sure , they bring back fond memories . I mean it was our youth afterall and man do we have stories from the time however those 80's partys with people from my age bracket I find to be really sad affairs. It would be cool to have a proper 80's night with the proper stuff that came out at the time (I tried at the alley last summer and it didn't work) but when I see 40yr olds getting excited , dancing over Kim Wilde and feckin Wham ....man how more suicidal can one get.....that stuff sucked then and stinks all the more now.
