Spiru, u're not alone mate..joanna newsome did nothing for me anzi man it really got on my tits. I still want to give it another chance tho maybe I wasn't in the mood and didn't 'get it.' But her voice and the arrangements aren't to my liking at all. I find it strange people find post rock etc pretentious and then love that one because that album is very pretentious altho in all fairness it was meant to be. Another album that is making all the lists and left me wanting (with the difference that this time around I'm a fan) is Yo La Tengo's new one. To me after 'I can feel the heart beating as one,' it all went downhill. That album left such an impact on me that the ones that followed always felt like a let down. Then again Yo La Tengo are one of the untouchables with the critics, like Flaming Lips, Lambchop etc...they can't do no wrong in these peoples eyes.
About the over 30's not like melodic songs/indie pop , I've got mixed feelings about the opinion. You may be right cause the older you get the harder it is to please. Most of the time you've been there and heard it before, your tastes kinda mature and you want something more challenging. On the other hand altho I can admire the Pipettes et al (I actuallt like a couple of their singles) age doesn't come into to it. I wouldn't have cared for them when I was 23 either. It all depends on your tastes. I've tried to listen to those type of bands at home and after awhile I'm like.........I don't want to be entertained , I want to lose myself.
working on my top list

I was waiting for that comment from you yep it is pretentious but there is something very enchanting and magical about it at the same time.

just because you want to lose yourself in the music it doesn't make you guys more noble. And isn't losing oneself a form of entertainment? Isn't it what drugs do? Isn't that why they are called recreational?
Well I would love to lose myself.....but HELL I WANT TO BE ENTERTAINED AS WELL :-)

agree with spiru on Guillemots - Through the Windowpane. The track If The World Ends is so beautiful.
I knew i left lots out on my list, and this is one of them.
