Just bought AFI(A Fire inside)'s 7th studio album released on 6th June 2006 "December Underground" for those of alternative modern goth rock lovers sure would love it as I did. At the moment the latest single from this album "Love like Winter" is in the top charts of the rock charts with an innovative video after the previous single Miss Murder. Band's vocalist Davey Havok has this (ahh) look that is great especially the hair although I don't like the plethora of tattoos he is covered in. But then the wardrobe he and his bandmates use is very much to my likings (you know Nazi Military like) "Miss Murder" video including the Prelude 12/21: www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpEnMOMXo1w "Love like winter" video : www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sevmkc0iLkUAlbum Tracks: 1. Prelude 12/21 2. Kill Caustic 3. Miss Murder 4. Summer Shudder 5. The Interview 6. Love Like Winter 7. Affliction 8. The Missing Frame 9. Kiss and Control 10. The Killing Lights 11. 37mm 12. Endlessly, She Said

Hmmm don't you find AFI a bit emo at times?

Many people see them as an emo band, now based on a couple songs that they heard on the radio. AFI isn't exactly punk, and it isn't emo. Much of their music is calming, and deeply poetic. The other half sounds more punk.
They do have some parts in the songs with yelling, straining and throatiness. Well, aren't all punk rock bands sometimes emo? If they aren't emotional? What are they robots or something? It just doesn't make any sense to me.
A band, it doesnt matter what scene it is, it's either you like them or not. If you don't like AFI, well, that's too bad. I cannot force anyone to like them.

AFI frontman Davey Havok kinda reminds me of an early fame Brian Molko of Placebo.

I must agree with Jakie that AFI's latest effort is indeed a very good one indeed. I also have their previous album 'Sing the Sorrow' which is equally good. Regarding style, I think that AFI started out as more of a punk band (even though their looks suggest more of a gothic style) but they're moving more into mainsteam rock as years go by.

you're right kros I read that as well.
heyyy jackie was just a statement I wasn't criticising or anything like that. I admit i've heard about 4 songs.
but emo isnt just about emoting, throaty yelling and whining - there's a distinct sound and I hear in them.
Im a fan of fugazi, husker du, minor threat and early death cab for cutie so i don't hate that stuff. Funnily in the staes (and my american friends proved it for me) Bloc Party are considered an emo band

This is what I call non sense emo. But still it's a matter of taste. Just because I don't see any sense in this kind of music I have no right to tell the others not to like it. I think this is some of the worst of emocore www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uBEwRYS6ww

Fugazi practically invented the genre (well ian Mackaye's old band Minor threat had a small hand in it as well)
actually I loved that! listen to the groove that bass makes, then the sudden release. WOW. Personally thats emo at it's best. It's all a matter of taste in the end.
and im not condemning anything or anyone. Just to avoid 25 anti bob replies

No offence Bob but as this forum is always sleeping the conversation has to go on, it wasn't a target for you. Otherwise there's no argument and it will get boring.

I just cannot get into the "emo" sound .... bands such as AFI, Panic at the Disco etc .... there is something which, to me, is musically repulsive.
It's like when bob goes to the extreme tweeness of twee pop ;D

same here Zick (about emo) but I think the early stuff is great. Actually I forgot to mention rites of spring another emo band I listen to quite a bit.

but like I said before there are some good emo bands. Listen to Fugazi (repeater is the best to start with) and you'll see where bloc party's positive tension or helicopter comes from.
