Jesus Christ! the majority of you so called alternative guys are the laziest bunch i've ever seen. Here we are trying to get you people interested and the response is usually nil- The forum usually has contributions from the same three people and then you have the cheek to complain that no one caters for alternative music or that there are the same five people are at an event, i mean there are things happening but i always feel that there is a minimal effort of participation- If you want a scene then we have to stop lazyness and petty jealousies and something will happen! am I angry? ohh yes I am

first of all to remind you all that Job is DJing at misftis this thursday 15th.
alt club nights isn't anyone's domain - anyone is free to go ahead and go for it.
altmalta will undertake to organise something. this could easily be a twice-monthly event if we knew there would be an attendance of 50-60 people on a regular basis. but i have to agree with rob here - if the enthusiasm on this forum is something to use as a yardstick, i do not feel very encouraged.
and another thing, we desperately need new faces. i can't believe that there are only 50 people into alt music. how about spreading thw word about the website and forum to all your friends?

I agree with Beta regarding the dj thing- I know the majority of you have great taste in music- and you kurt are always in the know about the up and coming bands- if you feel the need to show off your tunes in a rather schematical order then be free to do so - there isnt any king of the alt scene and no one is better than the other.- This may sound a bit hippyish but it is true- and yes please try bring new faces to these things, it will be much better.

Plenty of new faces actually! I'm trying to drag as much people to the gig as possible. I've been trying to convince my friends that it's the event of the year, that there's the best toilets anywhere and all sorts of crap. Somehow they're not buying it!! I'm going back to persuading them that they really ought to try these toilets now.

well gail,
sorry to burst your bubble but just last week we caught a puffed up chap spanking his monkey in the very same toilets you are waxing lyrical about.
Quite a schlong too I heard.

Yo Bobby ...it's not that we're lazy it's just that we're busy Alright alright..I'll promise I'll keep you entertained from now on. As for this djing thing...I still insist we can't be inundated with nights. There has to be a singular event rotating participants. I rest my case. Aside from that, you people should check out other bands too. No-one turned up at the Dripht launch for example. Quite a shame. It was worth-while. I toroughly enjoyed myself and the crowd was awesome.

ponce: agreed totally that there should be only one night, also that there should be a roster of DJs. i will go further and say that once every forthnight is more than enough.
if any of you remember the nights slavko used to organise at that bar in san gwann it used to work because there was always an element of surprise.
besides rob, job and jj who have djed regularly i know at least another 4 people who could do a really good job.
altmalta might be organising its first event in august. the venue will be a new one for our crowd, and hopefully we can build on this.
re: other bands - once again we agree. i'm sure dripht had a good night - i'm usually at their gigs, but on that night there was Transglobal Underground at Fort St. Elmo, it was an event not to be missed.

Yes I agree- when it is weekly it can get boring and when djs are rotated there is more variety- I know I missed the dripht lauch but I was at the skam thing plus when you are with other people you cant really jump to two places. At least im pleased that some people bothered to answer to this thread.

Hi All, I don't really agree with the "let's build a scene" rhetoric. One cannot fake enthusiasm about the scene. If there is enthusiasm one should capitalise and work to take it further but I find these appeals for alternative nights to be success pathetic. If people are not coming something must be wrong. I hate it when we (yes myself included) blame the crowd for not coming. That is not the case. People will come if they deem it worth it to come. Same goes for gigs. People will come AND pay if they deem it worth it. When I was with dripht, people payed Lm6.50 for the Hera party and the turnout was amazing. Furthermore, the talk that one should go watch a local band 'to support the scene' is ridiculous. I watch a band if I like it, or if I like it's efforts. I don't go watch bands because my friends are in them, or because the drummer came ot 'our' gig. That's the type of mentality that does not push bands to work harder. Let's face it, how many truly entertaining bands are there in Malta? How many make an effort to make gigs special? Is there any identity in Maltese gigs? Reciprocal Records are doing a great job in 'creating' a scene. But unfortunately the 'alt' scene is less inspiring. Maybe RRecords should introduce more 'alt' acts in their shows. To sum it all up, blaming the crowd for not coming might not be the solution. One needs to take a look at what they're offering and ask themselves whether it's worth it. I for example do not attend these 'alt/reggae/whatever' nights. First of all I don't have transport, therefore going LM4 under to get back home after listening to some tunes is not really my cup of tea. Secondly why would the idea of listening to songs of bands i've never heard about be appealing? Bob, you can't use yourself as a yardstick. Most people like to listen to familiar stuff and obscure bands are not everybody's hobby. So before we go on yelling for everybody to get off their ass I suggest we do a through examination of what we're offering. ps. I hope nobody gets offended. I'm only trying to give constructive criticism.
