Re. Reviews. Well I check it out every now and again but I don't follow bands mainly because I don't download music off the net so it's a bit of a problem to check some of the names out. well the fact that you do read them is already something. at least you do know about their existence. the cd compilation is something which is done on a regular basis overseas. i think you have in mind foreign bands too not just local? a good idea, i have discovered many new bands this way.

Yes both foreign and local. There could be both, seperated. I've been meaning to speak to RR about it cause they can release compilations with the bands they have signed and use it as fundraising.
But foreign bands as well. Compilations have their own appeal because you get a collection of (good I hope) songs all on one cd. And this is a perfect way to introduce new stuff.

That is true- compilations are an excellent way of discovering new bands, this can be done in the local scene, but obviously you need permission to compile a tape/cd of foreign groups in order to give away.
One ideal dream is to give away compilations(like the c60- a compilation given away by the nme in 1986 which was revolutionary) to every altMalta user and then we could get feedback

Bob,
technically you also need permission to play songs in a public place...
But what the hell...fuck the corporate bullshit ;D

Well, yesterday's gig, Particle Blue and Lumiere showed that the alternative scene is still alive (if not awake) so i guess maybe most people don't enjoy posting on message boards... but anyway - there's a lot of space to improve as usual - thing is this, why don't the people behind Alternative Malta, Reciprocal Records and Pestilent.net sit on the same table and see if there's a way to reinforce communication? Why don't the scenes decide to gather a magazine, or else even better, help woody aki organise his dansezee better... making a clear distinction and space on all the scenes? I mean dansezee is an excellent mag, but one drawback is that the sections aren't clearly laid out, dance music, metal, punk, alternative are all haphazardly put together - the magazine could work better if there's a more clear layout to all those interested... Also, why not speak to air malta to put in a dansezee in all the aircraft? Hell, i mean, there are so many tourists, and the immense talent that there is around at this moment doesn't exploit that area - it's still 'a maltest thing' to know about gigs etc. Now i know that Pestilent, Reciprocal, Alternative Malta and Dansezee work alone, a lot for little return - but do you know that if there's a cooperation between all 4, results don't increase fourfold, but tenfold, if not more... for example, Alternative Malta could take care of the alternative section of Dansezee, Pestilent - the metal section, Reciprocal the punk section and woody would need to work solely on the sponsors rather than chase artists. An arrangement with airmalta could be made, and sponsors will literally fly to woody... simple economics...
A personal experience thing - last summer i was in berlin and i had absolutely no idea where to go other than the obvious Tresor... We purchased 303 (i think that's what it's called) and it lists all events possible in the city, from the smallest gig and bar, the large events, to fetish sex parties to whatever ... it was all there - and it only cost me 3 euros (Lm1.20) ... it came to the point that i couldn't decide where to go - i was totally lost in a completely different sense. Now before anyone jumps up and says - oh there's not enough things to do here - well you're totally fuckin wrong - last year lars (the norwegian research guy) couldn't keep up with all the gigs (and this was with november) - and i mean i'm only talking about gigs here... there are roughly around 3 a week, even in winter. I mean fine, you have your extremely well made website, hard working and enthusiastic people behind this website, but your worries should not be on the forum, you can't just sit there and think you already have a well functioning community... Don't take this personally - like i said i admire your work, but get off your asses doesn't sound right. Due to work i'm in paceville almost every night, everywhere i look i see foreigners and i mean everywhere - i mean, i can very roughly make an underestimation and i can say that at least a 100 would be interested in the underground scene... but what do they see? Axis? Footloose? 7 Rooms? I know the foreigners' routine by heart by now - "Yeah Axis is cool, full of people... but it's always the same bad music... i can always guess what's coming next...".
Which brings me to another factor - why foreigners? Well you all know this routine - if malta gets the well deserved name for having a very active talent pool in terms of music, eventually it's going reach the right ears, right? Secondly, i guess you all have noticed souveiner shops selling the same old shit (the malta bus anyone? the malta shirt? check.) When you go abroad, what do you look for as souveniers? Something that defined your stay there - i mean i can betcha that if you visited italy, germany or spain and found a great local alternative band, i'm sure you'll be the first one to flaunt around their demo to all the alt people around here... same goes for metal and punk... foreigners *gasp* are pretty much the same as us...

Spoken like a true PRO.
This has been my idea for the past 3 years. Admittedly, I have not got off my ass to do anything about it...
But I've been abroad alone... and in every city there is a "TIME OUT" publication or something of the sort... at times its a 200 page full colour mag (timeout...preceisely..) or else a 6 page black and white newspaper (Belfast mag.. can't remember the name)... and these guys have really saved me.
I walk into a club and find what I'm looking for...
