Now I know it isn't hip to mention a few from the past around here. The old music turds , but one of the pluses in downloading albums is bruning stuff you normally wouldn't buy.
OK I think I'm only missing one of Robert Plant's solo albums however in my present financial crisis I wasn't going to buy his new album in a hurry despite all the great reviews it got from all over the place.
Guys , gals , loved ones , I doubt any of you alternative people are going to rush and buy this one but do yourselves a favour and burn ..............
Robert Plant & The Strange Sensation...The Mighty Rearranger...it is fuckin awesome and if I were to be honest with myself and kill off my alternative snobbery , I would blantly say that its the best album I've heard this year. Mhux bin-nejk.
Now Bob is saying....WHAT !
Beta is saying ...why is jeanz littering this place with dinasaur rock
the young ones are saying...x'zopp?
but please give me a minute...alright Plant will always be known for those 9 classic Zeppelin albums. Despite losing his vocal range he will always sound like Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin however if anyone has followed his solo career he has always tried to come up with something different , for the most part at least , and the thing that always fascinated me most about him is that he always surrounded himself with young musicians.(lets say these guys could be his kids or on this album his grand children, now that he must be pushing 60 or older). Yeah he has used a couple of old guest musicians but the band per se were always young guys.
On the Mighty Rearaanger , two of his band are session musicians from Massive Attack & Portishead& Roni Size. Enough said.
The album is absolutely amazing , one track after the other. Alla it goes from world to electronic (and fuckin good electronic...small pieces), lovely accoustic numbers to some rootsy stuff, some updated Zeppelin sounding numbers (like what Zeppelin would have sounded today if they were 20 year olds rather than old farts trying to sound like Zeppelin).
You know , I have no time or old artists trying to reach out for their former glories or hanging around doing music just for the sake of it , but once in awhile you get an album like this and you think.....ah this is good , this guy is one of the masters and all the new stuff I try to get excited about just pales in comparison.
Once I'm at it , another album released last year from a golden oldie , probably the best female vocalist ever ?
Check out Marianne Faithfull's Before The Poison. Ostja x'album dak. A few songs were written by Polly Harvey ans Nick Cave and the magical thing is that , they wrote these songs for themselves and got Marianne to sing them. (rather than they wrote songs that would suit Marianne) The results are just magical.
