Mark Linkous has a lot of 'outsider music' tendencies- he can be wonderfully naive. He has even covered Daniel Johnston's Hey Joe (nothing to do with Hendrix) I made a mistake in the early post Linkous has produced two Daniel Johnston (fear yourself and his up coming new one) albums not vice versa.

Sparklehorse are a typical band i've heard a lot about (including... I'm sure you'll like them duff!) and I have never even heard one song of theirs. What do they sound like?

think of flaming lips but a more minimal version with quirkier lyrics. But sometimes he can be very sparse. funniily enough I think his collaborations bring the best out of him:
Thom Yorke Nina Persson PJ Harvey Daniel Johnston
have all duetted with sparklehorse at one point-

I wouldn't go as far to say I hate Flaming Lips (because then what would I say about Natasha Bedingfield!!!) but you get my drift.
And I hate how people compare bands to Flamin Lips as if they are some sort of unique thing. Overrated. Almost as bad as the bloody Queens of the Stone Age.

Duff, which albums have you listened to? Hit to death in the future head and Transmissions from the satellite heart are even better than the soft bulletin
anyone who says the band are overrated should listen to these two crucial albums and your view will be changed. Ok you saw them live twice but still.

Madonna this thread reminds me I haven't heard anything by them for ages. Shame on me. Great band saw them in Brussels. They sound nothing like Flaming Lips (thank God-over-rated Flaming Lips il-madonna) Bob where do you get these things from , vera thawadni. My favouite album is 'Its a Wonderful Life,'

jean- all I can say is listen to Daniel Johnston's fear yourself and his cover on the tribute album. There is a heavy flaming lips influence
and linkous uses filtered orchestras as well. Deny it or not there is a faint echo in there. Plus his voice has the same wayne coyne/jonathan donahue/neil young whine to it.
I know what i'm talking about
and i didnt say they sounded like flaming lips. I also used the word MINIMAL not CARBON COPY or FULL BLOWN REPLICA
I have a feeling that you just read two words jean and then you freak out!
calm down man!

tim why d'you hate FL? Love the 'Soft Bulletin'. OK probably overrated, but that's another story.

well not only the soft bulletin- The Flaming Lips have a very impressive back catalogue. I still hold that Transmissions from the satellite heart is one hell of an album.Their fame came late in their career- are you going to hate REM as well cause the same stuff happened to them
