Yma Sumac - has the highest natural pitch ever. The Peruvian diva is a possessor of FIVE(!) vocal octaves!

What about Julianne Regan of All About Eve & Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance? Enchanting female voices. Then there is Kate Bush (I know they mentioned her but she's a favourite) and admired by many. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksWveF7k6F0

Gotta agree with you re Lisa Gerrard , Jackie. If someone can reduce me to tears within seconds it's her. What a voice !
Same with Sinead O'Conner in her prime.
I also really liked Regan from All About Eve and her voice could be really haunting as well. December still hits the right spots for me. My mate Mike burned a dvd of their for me recently , it was fun to watch those old vids from the 80,s. You have to laugh now but they seemed so cool then. It was also interesting for me to see their latter day videos since Marty from The Church was with them for a few albums. Gaggu and I saw them supporting The Mission in 88. It was a real bonus cause nobody expected them to be on that night. It kept on getting better. John Paul Jones from Led Zep joined the Mish on stage for their encore .

Karin Dreijer Andersson is a stunning new voice under the music radar. She's one-half of the Norwegian brother-and-sister duo The Knife, who aren't so new after all. They have made three albums, but currently achieved recognition due to ad exposure and a collaboration with Royksopp. Her vocal style is quirky and singular, yet very affecting... Is she the new Bjork? 'What Else is There?' video (with Royksopp)www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2VxjnpxTR0&search=royksopp(Interestingly enough, Dreijer is the woman biting the apple, not the blue-eyed levitator)

Karin Dreijer has a great voice alobixx, you're very right there. That Royksopp song she features in is amazing and the video is a masterpiece as well. I thought she sounded more like an upgraded version of Catatonia's vocalist Cerys Matthews though .... can't really make the comparison with Bjork.
btw ... i thought The Knife were Swedish not Norwegian ...
