as reviewed on BBC:
Lo-fi melancholia with strings.
This third album from ex-God Machine mainman Robin Proper-Sheppard is shot through with brooding intensity. But beneath the melancholy introspection – heartbreak, betrayal and twisted souls - sparkles a glimmer of sonic defiance where Proper-Sheppard’s burning ember voice is coloured by swathes of passionate strings, layers of delicate electronica and tamed feedback. Like American Music Club and Sparklehorse welded roughly together with the lo-fi aesthetic of Guided By Voices, People… is the bridge between bourbon-soaked lonely nights and bright tearstained mornings. Powerful stuff
