Has anyone bought the album. I've just bought it and listened to it twice. It sounds very good for now. At times it does get a bit long winded perhaps, but as a first try in a home studio, the band shows it has a lot of potential.

On the whole, for a debut Idle Times is quite good, Yes it is mellow but you have to know the band's influences, which is (smog) and Bonnie prince Billy who play more or less the same music and to counteract the mellowness there is Saltwater... which is quite jaunty (and may I mention it gets people moving at my dj nights)
As a live band The hunters are getting better and better and are probably going to become Malta's best band.

that's quite a statement - going to become malta's best band. can we stop talking about such rubbish as who's the best etc? isn't music meant to be subjective?

Quite a statement ?! Hehe. Wow.
Yeah of course music is subjective and of course everyone's taste is different and I mean if i like to put Philip Bailey on my way home from work because it makes me feel good, who has the right to judge me ?
But its so much more fun to pass sweeping statements ! And (from my experience) makes for a much livelier discussion board !
So here are some sweeping statements - pls feel free to abuse yours truly as best you need necessary : (just dont touch ma mama !)
1. hunter's palace are THE best band on the island and they're getting better
2. NME sucks corporate c**k . I swear i'm never gonna touch that mag again. And I dont just mean putting outkast on the cover (they're actually interesting ppl) - the whole white stripes and strokes idolatry makes me nauseous.
3. i cant take another indy windy band !!! i think i'm on the verge of selling all my coral, strokes, brmc, yyy's, kings of leon etc cds and head out and get me some punk !
4. On a merrier note (i'm not all that sour actually :-)) i've discovered "the sound". now there's a band ... !

AH ha The Sound were championed by the NME in the 80's AND Uncut wrote an arse kissing review of them a couple of years ago
What are you going to do now
and yes true the aim of a sweeping statement is to spark discussions

and furthermore i listened to Franz Ferdinand's Demos on the domino website loooooonnnnggggg before NME caught whiffs of them so you cant accuse me for following the mag there! I think Tuesdays bring out my more argumentative side!

almost exactly my point ... the modern NME is nothing like its old self. Prob one of the worse pieces of musical journalism i ever read was the "celebrated" thom yorke interview with them after years of refusing to speak to the nme. What a bloody waste of space !!
And uncut is quite ok really.
anyway - i didnt accuse you of anything ! methinks you got a guilty conscience ;D

ahhhh I se what you mean. Oh well you've got a point there. I carried away as well. Hmm im not liking Uncut as much though, honestly the only magazine which tries to avoid indie cred is The Wire but that can get too leftfield at times.
